Hi all

I am trying to figure out the surface area that a point load can extend on for a composite one way slab. For example what would the surface area be for a point load on a 8 inch slab. Also, where can I reference this and find the equation, formula, etc.

Thanks in advance

Well, more than likely it would be the punching shear capacity of the slab as calculated by the current ACI 318 code, but you should also check the slab reinforcing in at least the positive moment region to make sure that is adequate too.

If you are unsure how to do either of the above, you really should engage a structural engineer to do it for you.
