I am trying to email PLT files to an imaging company to print. The files were created from a CAD file that is under 1MB. I am creating a PLT file for each layout (two total). Each PLT file is over 10 MB with some as high as 40 MB. I am using CAD 2000. The files should not be this big should they?

Depending on what is in the drawing and the print drivers, it is possible.

The drawing only contains two sheets. It is not 3D, but contains some raster images and notes. I deleted layer filters in an attempt to get the drawing as small as possible. The CAD files are 700kb and the .plt files are as high a 40 MB. Is it customary to zip the files before emailing? My internet service provider limits the size of email attachments to 5 MB. Even with the business email account attachments are limited to 5 MB. Any help would be appreciated.

You may try a different print driver. Some postscript drivers we use get enormous, raster images have a big impact on this. You may try "breaking up" the file into zipped parts. Most zip programs can allow this and you can send your plt in parts.

Hi corvette63,

I plot with the HP750c driver into a *.plt-file. I think the images are the problem...[sadeyes]

I tried the HP750c plotter and it did not make any difference. I believe the problem is the raster images, as I started a new drawing and added just one raster image and the size of the plt file was .5 MB.

My drawing contains several standard details that I inserted using raster images. I created the image by scanning the detail, editing it in powerpoint and then saving as a picture file (jpg). The jpg file is not that large (84kb). For some reason this technique is making my plt files huge (50 MB).

Can someone provide a better way to add predrawn details to my drawing? Looking for anything that will help at this point. I talked to the imaging company and they normally get plt files that are under 3 MB with similar information and details.

Could you send them a .pdf file instead of a .plt?

Have you tried "viewres" command and set it to
a lower number? Not sure what this does
to plot files. Just a guess.
