Hi all,

I am using Mimics to segment maxillofacial CT images and generate the 3D model of the mandible and export it to Femap in STL extension to perform stress analysis. However, it seems that Femap sees the model as a plot planar mesh, meaning that the mesh is failed within FE solver because some of parasite internal structures. Are there any ideas or softwares to repair or overcome this problem.

Please take a look at the appeared problem on the image uploaded at this address:

sorry french isn't my primary language (so i haven't looked at your attachment) ... you might try posting via engineering.com (the button at the bottom of the screen)

i'm guessing that you've imported a surface into femap, if so making a volume from a surface is easy (under geometry), then mesh the volume.
else you've imported a bunch of sections ... and i'm not sure how to convert these into a volume.

Thank you rb1957, all what have you to do is to click on the button cadred in red in the right side of the screen writing (telecharger et valider), meaning validate and download the file, then it will display the picture in a new window.

i will try also to upload on your suggested site.

yes what you explained is exactly what i want to achieve, but there is a problem of mesh included in the STL file as you will see, and my question was about to ressolve it.

all my greetings and respect.

Hi rb1957,

the image is found on this address, please give me kindly more details about the method which I should follow to arrive to build a correct geometry model ready for a static analysis using Femap:

sincerely yours
