Hello, i have a question about the design of fountain pump. Here's the problem: By estimating the height of the fountain's central (the highest one) and other quantities, determine weather it would be better to have a pump just below the water's surface or at the bottom of the lake. What kind of pump do you recommend?

Note: It can be considered as a big fountain with highest water jet of about 10 meters.

Hello guys, this is not a problem given by tutor but it is a design problem for a club's activity. I only have limited knowledge about it. Based on the information on this site:
I think the pump should be placed just below the surface of the water, so there is a big depth of water underneath to provide enough elevation energy. Haven't done the calculation yet, so it's just my assumption.

I'm new here, so sorry i don't know this is not the right place to post this question. Please provide me with more guidance in the right direction.
 
Ok, I'll give you the benefit of doubt.

Once you go below water level, the depth of the pump below water level makes no difference to the pump if you're pumping it vertically back up again as the increase in pressure is matched by the water in the outlet pipe so no overall effect on the pump differential pressure.

Best to go for a submersible pump - the main issue is normally fouling of the pump from dirt, weeds, fish..

Simply look up submersible pumps and find one to match your flow and head requirement.

Water feature pump system requirements vary widely depending on the project. You have provided very little in the way of details so it is not possible to make a pump recommendation.

The pump inlet needs to be enough below the water level so that no vortex is generated that will suck air into the pump. It does not need to be at the bottom of the lake. Most water feature parks have a pump room with a water sump of some sorts.

A submersible pump will not work well out in the middle of a lake.

The underground works of a fountain include a chlorine tank, a sand filter and an ultraviolet-light tank that purifies water.

More detail required and would suggest as it's a clubs activity, why not employ an engineer to look at the problem and then advise what you want.
