PLC to CATD398 comm issues

Good Afternoon to all,

Just need some assistance, hope you can help.

I have received a PLC for service that has some outputs to the engine D398. I am trying to figure out what these signals do.

The output on the PLC to the engine is

1. Alum 24V to the Governor

2. Air Inlet Close Valve

Does anyone know what these signals would be for ?? I have attached the PLC outputs pic

1. Appears to be power supply to the governor. Some governors use application/removal of power supply to enable engine starting/shutdown. Not sure what the "alum" denotes...will have to ponder that...

2. Air inlet close valve. This is a flap that goes in the engine's air intake pipe(s), which is used to shut down the engine in the event that airborne natural gas is drawn into the intake and burned as fuel, typically causing the engine to over speed. The intake flap would be closed automatically upon over speed, thereby stopping air (and fuel) flow into the engine, causing it to shut down. These are typically used in drilling and oil and gas applications.

Some manuals have an abbreviation section that may clarify "alum" for you. There is a forum here specifically for PLC questions you may find it interesting.
