I am trying to design some tower bracing that will connect via a Transverse T plate.
One of the limit states is that D(column diameter)/t(column thickness) has to be less than or equal to 50: for T-connections under branch plate axial load or bending. (AISC Table K1.1A)
I am trying to use either an HSS 16x0.25 or an HSS 24x0.25 which doesn't satisfy the limit state from above. Using these two members will be the cheapest route because they are the standard sizes sold for each.
Anyways, is there an alternate provision that I can use to design these Transverse T plates so I can use the standard factory sizes? The max load I have on one of these plates is 30 kips.
If anyone knows of an alternate way please let me know. Thanks.
