Dear Professional,

I would like to understand why a 2mm thickness carbon steel plate bends when it is auto blasted (Mixture of Steel grit and Steel Shots). Has anyone encountered this issue.
Thank you.

Residual compressive stresses in the plate, which are introduced during blasting.

And this method is actually used to shape some parts.
People also use thin strips in a blast machine to measure the intensity of the blasting based on how much they bow.

P.E. Metallurgy, Plymouth Tube

It's a 2 mm (very thin!) wide plate being hit in the middle at high velocity by a high-mass stream of grit and air.
Impact matters. Energy matters.
