Plastic / GRP Piping material for sea water duty. 1

Hi,
Can anyone recommend what material to use for pipework carrying seawater? I was considering going to a glass fibre reinforced plastic system. Is there a recommended plastic to use? Pipe sizes range from 10inch to 20 inch. Pressure is only a few bar.
Our existing piping is internally painted carbon steel - its too small for cathodic protection - and is failing due to poor preparation of the internal surface at welds.

Ductile iron pipe or cast iron is suitable with push joints or mechanical flanged joints. Can be coated with epoxy or cement.

Going down the GRP route will take you into territory where you will have to be familiar with GRP specifications. The only suitable GRP is one that has achieved a documented size, pressure, temperature qualification in accordance with ISO 14692-2 that meets your design conditions.

PE, ABS, PVC and PP will all meet your requirements. It comes down to cost and available technologies to install.

I would recommend HPPE but it does have some limitations.

It creeps and has a high coefficient of thermal expansion.

However it does not corrode and has very low friction factors.
