What is the shorterm and longterm effect of powering a plant of 525Volt motors with 550V supply
 
That is only a 5% difference.

In the short term? None.

In the long term? Perhaps a little more energy cost maybe a percent. Possibly longer motor life due to possibly reduced current and hence slightly reduced winding temps. (Very slightly) Possibly longer motor life due to never under-voltaging your motors even in the plants darkest corners. Under voltage is the big motor killer not over voltage.

If you had a reversed voltage condition from your stated position I would say don't do it!!

No problem. Reduced current and probable longer insulation life.

i agree to itsmoked.

Motor will operate satisfactorily either short or long term provided that:

1.) motor operates within 10% voltage variation from rating.
2.) frequency is within 5% variation from rating.

Morever, 30% voltage variation is equivalent to single phase condition.
