Pipeline Warning Tape 1

It’s a pipeline warning tape. It probably ought to say something like “warning.... petroleum pipeline below.” It may not have to say what’s being transported today. Maybe it should include the pipeline company’s name and contact info. Probably, states and nation’s pipeline safety agencies dictate some of this, contact them.

Other than specific company wording, I'm not aware of any other requirements.
It is pipeline warming tape so should say "WARMING BURIED PIPELINE BELOW " as a minimum.

Well at least it's a tape. UIsually particular type is detailed in the construction spec.
State of the art now is a yellow or other colour mesh like this.

Typically we specify the tape is installed the full length of the trench and approximately 18" above and on the centerline of the pipe. Seton ( is typically what we specify around.
Refer to API RP 1109 for marking the liquid petroleum pipeline.

Color Code for marking ANSI Standard Z535.1
Red = Electric power lines, cables, conduit and lighting cables
Yellow = Gas, oil, steam, petroleum or gaseous material
Orange = communication, alarm or signal lines, cables or conduit and traffic loops
Blue = potable water
Purple = reclaimed water, irrigation & slurry lines
Green = sewer and drain lines
Red = Electric power lines, cables, conduit and lighting cables
Yellow = Gas, oil, steam, petroleum or gaseous material
