Pipeline Tie_in distance

Dear Mates,
I want to know if you have any standard to limit the distance between 2 tie_in in pipeline welding activities.
Our sub contractor suggests to make tie in every 20 km.
Please advise.

I mean before pipelime lowering in trench ,the contractor suggested the lenght of pipeline is 20 km (distance between 2 tie in weld joints)

So if I understand you correctly you mean the contractor will construct 20km on the surface, then dig 20km of tench then lower the whole lot in in one go?

Can be done, but normally the environmental aspects don't like that amount of open trench but in the desert? Maybe.

But this is not a code or standard thing. You might find restrictions in the EIA or construction specification.

It happens sometimes if the welding gets ahead of the excavators, but 20km is a long way for a single string. I would normally expect no more than 5km. Stops the camels falling in the trench....
