Pipeline temporary pigging 1

Hi, I would appreciate if someone can advise me on how I can design above ground riser portion to facilitate connection with temporary pig launcher and receiver for a 10" propylene (HVP) line. This line is to be pigged using N2 from a truck.? If I keep a riser blind flange on the line with a valve, is it enough? I think as the pig will be propelled by N2, I do not need to keep provision for any connection for kicker line, right? Do I need to install any drain line, flare line, vent line, pressure gauge, balancing line etc.? I would appreciate if someone can share a diagram or sketch to understand the connection type. I would also appreciate if someone can refer to any document or book which has the information on portable pigging, connection type and how these pigging assemblies can be operated.

I can't understand your proposed configuration so a diagram would help a lot.

But in general you should not try and short change this.

Pigging with gas on a temporary trap is notoriously dangerous and hazardous because people try to miss our equipment and don't understand the hazard.

Thanks LittleInch for quick response. I have attached a link where you can get a hand sketch for my plan to have a flange connection point for temporary pig launcher. The similar type of arrangement will be for pig receiver. I would appreciate any suggestion on the layout (connection arrangement) to facilitate temporary pigging.

You can use that arrangement for a launcher but not a receiver.

You need some way of releasing the gas in front of the pig to get it down the line and into the trap. Also some means of controlling the pig speed.

Pigging in gas has a big hazard that you loose control over pig speed and it comes out like an artillery shell.

So for a receiver, yes IMHO, you need all the items you list to control of speed and deal with it when it arrives safely. Remember that you will have debris in the line and that needs to collected safely.

Thanks LittleInch. What can be the alternative way to use something as driving fluid other than the service fluid, water? For any future requirements, I want to keep provision for kicker lines and drain lines for both launcher and receiver but a vent line for only receiver. I have updated and attached layouts for receiver and launcher both. I would appreciate your comments. Thanks and best regards.

Why not use water?
Even if you had to bring in a couple of trucks clean water it would give you better control.
