I meant to post this here instead of the Fasteners forum...so sorry for the double post

I need to check the design of a pin made from AISI 1541 hot rolled steel.

I don't believe this material is covered under AISC or the AISI cold form spec.

Any ideas on how to go about determining the shear capacity?

I have the material properties,...

allowable shear = As*Fsu/SF ?

"Any ideas on how to go about determining the shear capacity?

question asked and answered.

"I was wondering if the material was covered by the AISC Spec or the AISI Cold Formed Spec"

"I don't believe this material is covered under AISC or the AISI cold form spec."

no?

Guess my question would have been better asked:
"can I design a pin made of AISI 1541 using the AISC code or AISI cold formed spec."

Actually running calcs for shear on a pin is not my issue.

Not very familiar with these codes now, but I don't think a cold formed specification would be applicable to a pin design.
