Piled Foundation and Pipe Support on Soft Ground

I have a number of domestic projects which require piled foundations(soft ground or filled ground). The foundation design is relatively simple, precast piles and ground beams would be the normal solution in the UK for the particular situations in question.

I am wondering about the requirement for any pipework support or sewage treatment plant support.

On very soft ground I sometimes recommend the clients dig to a stiffer strata, line the excavation with a geotextile and build-up to pipework level with compacted hardcore or trenchfill concrete.

With Filled ground I am wondering if I should take the same approch as any settlements can vary although with about 3.0 metres of fill I would not expect the settlement to be critical (damage pipework or affect falls).

Has anyone any experiance of these situation and if so would you agree with the approch listed or recommend a different approch - if any?

Also would you provide a platform at foundation level around the house to support pipes gullies etc. and if so how would you slieve the pipe as it transfers to the softer ground?

Where I work, coastal South Carolina, settlement is a big issue. When underground pipelines are pile supported there is an unintended consequence. As the ground continuously settles and the pipelines don't the result is bulges in the ground directly above the pipelines. This plays havoc at road crossings / parking lots and gets worse over time.

Your proposed approach should be much preferable.
