Hi
I am designing pile cap and have obstructions for piles to set them in the same level and I have proposed the below design, could you help how I can analyse the pile cap and check is stable
That's my first thought too. Generally, we think of pile to pile cap interface as capable of transferring shear and axial force, but not moment. Therefore, you normally want to have at least 3 piles in just about any pile supported mat foundation.
you need a min of 3 piles unless the cap is tied to another pile cap. or it'll be unstable. You may be able to transfer moment into the pile dependent on pile design but that would be hard to work.
Generally piles are tied to the pile cap to resist moment arising from eccentricity in one or two pile configurations, but in those cases the axial load is designed to go straight into the pile
Consider stability about the red line axis below. I’ve drawn a section perpendicular to this to demonstrate. The central support being the notional line of support provided by the red line axis.
