Piezo vs. regular EM actuators

what is the difference between piezo actuators (for pneumatic valves-actuators) and ordinary solenoid ones?
is there a difference in reliability (doubt it though that it's in favour of the piezo, as it needs some sort of mechanical advantage system to multiply the travel i think), response time, response characteristic, something else?

(i am a mech engineer, i don't know exactly about this stuff)

i am sorry but i cant give you an answer to your question. anyways i was really interested in the application field you are using the piezo at since i'm working for a company that is producing piezo motors.
could you explain to me for what kind of application you would be using the piezo?
