Phase detection

I am using powerline communication technology. How can i detect which phase i am connecting to (relative phase from the transmitter)?

You don't.

Usually, powerline transmissions occur during the zero crossings and the specific manufacturer will have a specific start code that allows you to synchronize to the transmittal.

Hi,
I am sorry i was not specific.

i have two devices one acting as a transmitter and the other as a receiver. The transmitter is the reference phase (known phase). It sends specific signals based on the zero crossing point. The receiver is to detect it's own phase with respect to the transmitter.

I'm not sure that clarified it any. Is this a multi-phase system? Does the transmitter randomly transmit on arbitrary phases?

If you read the webpage I referenced, it should be clear that the transmitter in a multi-phase system always transmits the first bit on a particular phase and the following bits show up on the following phases.

The start code is unique and is preceded by sufficient blannking space that it's obvious that a transmission has completed and that a new one is imminent.
