Dear All:

I am working on a bench scale pervaporation unit, directed towards separating water from ethanol using a polymer dehydration membrane.

As of now, I am having extreme difficulty in collecting all the permeate vapors and condensing it. Although my experimental time is long enough (18hrs or more) I am able to condense only several drops of vapors ( from feed flow rate of 6ml/min -retenate recovery approximately around 95%)(I am using a glass vacuum trap and liquid N2 to condense)

Any advice or tips on improving the collection of permeate vapors will be very helpful.

Thanks in advance
RW

your vacuum is probably higher than required, you should better condense at the discharge of the vacuum pump.

You may try with bigger dia Vacuum Condenser (more heat transfer area). And may be one more Condenser in line, preferably after or before Vacuum Pump, could help.
