Periodic Boundary Conditions on Unit Cell

Does anyone know to apply periodic boundary conditions on a unit cell of a repetitive unit cell of a cellular structure? For example periodicity only in a particular direction, maybe in x or y-direction for a boundary of the unit cell.

On COMSOL or Abaqus.

In case of Abaqus you have to use equation constraints or Micromechanics plug-in. Check the article "Applying Periodic Boundary Conditions in Finite Element Analysis" by W. Wu et al. for reference.
