Hello,

I have "Design of Wood Structures, ASD" 4th edition published in 1999. The book outlines perforated shear wall design for wood framed shear walls. Basically, the shear wall capacity is calculated by adjusting shear capacity of the entire wall by a factor that is calculated by comparing the heights and widths of the openings to the total height and width of the wall.
In this edition, it talks about the perforated shearwall design method being new and discussed in code writing organizations. Does anyone know if this process would be acceptable for masonry walls?

Thanks,
-K

Check your applicable building code, but I believe perforated design is only for wind. Advantages to using that method are really for wood construction and would not be considered with masonry anyway.
