hi every body , i have a test for gates leakage at 24-Nov-2016 , so i have to prepare the form
the equation for allowable leakage is 0.62 liter per ,minute per meter of gate periphery
iam really don't know how to deal with it can you help me in calculation to find the level decrease of water in the chamber ?
note :-
the area of the chamber = 14.79 m^2
the dimension of gate = 70 cm X 65 cm
the height of water we will fill the chamber = 90 cm
the period = 3 hours

regards.

First calculate your leakage rate based on the gate dimensions you've given.

Then work out a total volume based on three hours in m3 ( 1000litres to the m3)

Then divide that number by the area of your chamber in m2.

The answer, in metres, will be what the height of that volume will be.

I have to say this is a very basic calculation to explain.

The test seems a very low pressure differential or is this mysterious chamber at the top of the penstock??

so
( 0.62 liter / min X m ) X 180 min = 111.6 liter / m
then
( 111.6 liter / m ) X ( 0.70 + 0.65 + 0.70 )m = 228.78 liter
then convert from liter to cubic meter = 0.22878 m3

so the level decrease = ( 0.22878 m3 / 14.79 m2 ) = 1.5 cm

is that right ?

Looks good to me. Basically there should be virtually no leakage, but because you're doing it over three hours it's not a trivial amount, but you will find it difficult to measure in a big chamber.
