Table 3306.1 indicates requirements for types of pedestrian protection, but I'm finding the way it is worded to be very confusing. I have a 46' high building. We are closing the sidewalk during demolition. Do I have to extend a barrier 23 feet away from the building (1/2 the height)? I don't understand why it says "between 1/4 and 1/2" the height.

The way I interpret Table 3306.1 of the 2006 IBC is that its prescribing the type of protection based on the location of the construction in relation to the lot (property line).

For a 46 foot tall building, a pedestrian path that is 24 feet from the building would not require protection. Other the other hand, if the pedestrian path is < 5 feet from the construction, a barrier and covered walkway is required.
