pebble mill studios 'concrete cancer' 2

hello all,
Pebble mill studios in birmingham was said to be suffering from concrete cancer, i cant find any evidence of this but only people claiming this was used as an excuse by the BBC to demolish the site and relocate. Does anyone know where i might find information on this?

"Concrete cancer" can mean almost anything, but usually refers to something insidious in the concrete such as alkali-silica reactivity, alkali-carbonate reactivity, chloride penetration causing rebar corrosion and spalling, and freeze-thaw damage.
