PE Exam Engineering Experience HELP!

I applied to take the PE exam and was denied due to that I did not have a PE listed for my direct supervisor. The company that I work for designs and manufacturers timber frames and all of my work is done under the supervision of a licensed PE but they are all consultant engineers and don't work directly as my supervisor.

Has anyone heard of something like this being approved? Any advise and help on this is appreciated.

Each state has its own laws, and you did not mention where you applied. Since you are ToledoEIT, I'll assume it is Ohio.

The State of Ohio Engineer's Board website has this to say about references:

...shall contain not less than five references, of whom three or more shall be professional engineers or professional surveyors having personal knowledge of the applicant’s engineering or surveying experience.

No mention there about your supervisor being a PE, so keep looking...

The Ohio PE Exam Approval Application says essentially the same thing:

Name 5 persons, at least 3 of whom are registered engineers, from whom the Board may request information in regard to your character, experience and professional ability. Do not name your relatives or members of this Board.

Note that the form asks for your "Business Relationship" with each reference. How did you answer that question?
If you said something like "Consultant", perhaps that should be revised to something truthful, but with a more appropriate "spin". Maybe "Project Supervising Engineer".

If my assumption about the state being Ohio is wrong, look into the details of the correct state.

Call the board or show up to the office in person if you have a valid argument.

I sent my application in for the exam last April and was only approved 46 of the 48 required months. I was hoping to take the exam 6 months earlier under one of the states requirements that I would be approved of experience prior to graduation if I was in school at least 6 years and was working directly under the supervision of a PE. They did not credit me all 48 months because I was not in school a full 6 years... my case was I started August 2006 and graduated May 2012. They tried telling me I was not in school for 6 years bc I did not graduate August 2012. Since when is a school year defined as August to August, including summers?

I sent them so many emails and called so many times they finally responded. They ended up agreeing with me about a standard school year; however, they only approved half of my pre-graduation time.
