I wanted to get some feedback on how people deal with this problem in PDMWorks...
Our current revisioning scheme is as follows: we use a combination letter and numbering scheme to indicate release and version, for example -.01, -.02, A.01, A.02. When a part is released, the second half of the revision is removed so that the released revision is A, B, C, etc.
At this point we run into a problem. Often, an engineer will want to do additional work on the released part that may or may not be released. When this work is done, the rev is bumped from A to A.01, A.02, etc. If the changes are implemented, the production release rev is changed to B. If the changes are not implemented the released rev remains A. My question is, can I set the lifecycle up so that only the A, B, C, etc. revs can have a status of "Production". Additionally, can I set PDMWorks up so that the A.01, A.02 revs show a status of "Post Production Development" while the A, B, and C revs show a status of "Production"? If there are better ways of dealing with this problem, I'd certainly like to hear them. Basically I want a way to separate the production stages from the post production development stages. Thanks for the help.
