When using PDMWorks having the include drawings option on makes check in so slow (over an hour) on anything other than the smallest assemblies. Does anybody else suffer from this problem and if so how do you get around it.

klester,
Where's this option at? Is it a SW2005 option? I checked the vault admin options and didn't see anything.

klester,
We use “Include Drawings” at check-in PDMWorks – Client Options under “Check in / Check out / Open: while checking into the PDM. This is a fantastic feature. I have checked in Assemblies with drawing for a 29 part assembly, 15.3 MB for all files. Only had four drawings, took less than one minute to check-in.

The following may not apply to you, but is worth a look see.

PDM/Works Getting Slow?
Is your PDM working directory filling up with drawings, models and assemblies? The more drawings, models and assemblies you have in your working directory the slower PDM/Works becomes. I have tested this by having 1,873 files in my working directory. A file that should open from the PDM within 3 seconds was taking as long as 7 minutes.

One thing to remember: “Keep you working directory clean”.

Yes I have used it. It is a nice feature, but is slower. That is because it is searching the folder where the files are located for any drawings associated. If you have an assy with dwgs for each part and assys and want to check them all in at once, it can be useful. I prefer to do each dwg separate, less mistakes on my part.
