PDM Works and directory structures

Alright guys Iam going to make this as short as possible. We are getting ready to deply PDM Works. Iam have been tasked withi getting the Engineering Directory Structure in place.I have been told that you build your structure within the Vault when installed. With that being said. Does PDM Works act like a normal type windows directory structure (ie...Projects, Check foler, Release folder..)
I need to make sure my process mimics what PDM Works does. Will the clients see directories to move docs around or am I way off base here? Maybe someone can send me a link to some screen shots on the software or more in depth info. I will be hiring our local VAR to help set it all up. But I would like to have a sneak peek at what Iam getting into and insure process is written up correctly. Thanks

I am setting up the directoy structure with respect to the flow of a project thru engineering. That mean from conception to release into doc control. So if Iam telling a checker that after they electronical sign off a pdf and that pdf should be moved to say the "Managment Approval" directory. Will they be able to easily navigate with in PDM to that directory and check it in there? There will only ever be one copy of this PDF. All checkers and doc control will have the client side installed.

It can be setup almost anyway you like. You can have folders and projects with different permissions for users. When purchase of PDMWorks, you should have received training and 1-2 people trained as admin. Your VAR should sit with you and help setup the structure and explain as you go.

I know this does not answer your question. CorBlimeyLimey answered your question with the link. A List of things I wish I knew in the beginning. You might want to look into lifecycle.

These are the rules I came up with for our company.
PDM Rules to Live by:

1. Get latest parts from PDM.
2. Work only within your working directory.
3. Keep your working directory clean.
4. Take ownership as soon as you know you are going to change, if an ECN is required keep ownership until you give it to Documentation.
5. Do not check out or take ownership unless you are going to change it.
6. Do not take ownership of an assembly and all children.
7. Upon check-in, add short note as to what you did.
8. Release Ownership (if applicable) during check-in not afterwards.
9. Do not add suffices and prefixes to part numbers being checked-in to PDM.
10. Do not check-in junk names; get a part number if it needs to be in PDM.
11. If you are working on projects that are not ready for PDM, create a sub-directory within your working directory for those models. Remember rule number 2.
12. Do not delete relationships and external references.
13. Clean swSolidWorksBackups directory; defrag your C:\ drive as often as needed.
