What is the current "going" rate for a contract API 510 inspector? and also to what extent does a "prior" background in NDT, and being an AWS CWI, play a factor in determining hiring and pay scale?

Well it depends on your location and the amount of relative inspection experience. A couple of years of crawlin' through towers and such will certainly benefit you over someone who doesn't know the difference between a cat-cracker and a graham cracker!

I have varied from $18.00 to $40.00 per hour. No one has ever asked to see my CWI card.

I worked in industries and situations I was familar with.
