Paste Special...

Why don't I use the Paste Special... command in the Modeling environment?

That's a good question. Why DON'T you use it?

I just did (again using NX 7.5.5.1) and I had NO problem whatsoever Copying a solid body from one Part file and then doing a 'Paste Special' into another Part file where I used the Paste Special options to define a different orientation and destination layer.

Would this work as well in copying feature(s) from one model to another? Our issue here is that the IT group likes to design the skin or outside of the housings, while the CAD Designers do the interior. We just got done with a hot project that presented problems with how long one group takes prior to handing it over to the CAD group. I am looking for a method that allows the IT to do their designs while I am working on the interior, at the end I can import/copy their features into my model. It would be nice to avoid another, "You have two hours to complete this and get it out tonight" routine.

If you look at the NX Help you will see that it specifically states that when you do a 'Copy' and then use the 'Paste Special' function, that it's only valid for standalone objects and NOT for features which depend on another object. For example, if I have a solid body with a hole feature in it, I could use the Paste Special if I had Copied the Solid Body, but NOT if I had copied either the Hole or the Block feature.

Now granted, perhaps we should provide some feedback when someone attempts to use the Paste Special operation after copying an unsupported object, but we did explicitly cover this issue in the Documentation.

I will be looking at different ways to handle this and spend some time in the "Help" area. I know there must be a way.

2 words for you: synchronous modeling or more specifically replace face. My previous employer works as you described, engineering worked on structure and features and industrial design worked on aesthetics and ergonomics. Industrial design (ID) would export surfaces from their modeling program of choice and after a few checks we would use replace face on the outer surfaces to match the new skin; then use replace face again on the inner surfaces (with specified offset for wall thickness). Working this way allowed us to cut out 6 weeks from the schedule while also allowing 2 additional iterations from ID.

How could I do the following problem with Paste Special:
I create a drawing file with some notes and sketches
I cretae an other drawing file
I would like to copy the notes and sketches from first drawing file into the other drawing file to a special layer.
Or do I have to use other command to do this?

You will need to do this in two steps. First perform a normal 'Copy & Paste' from the first Drawing to the second and after you have placed the Sketch/Notes where you want them to be, you will then need to use the 'Move to Layer' command to get them onto the desired Layer.
