I've got Tools|Options|Edit|"Show Paste Options buttons" set to ON.

When I paste text, I'm presented with a choice of
"Keep Source Formatting" or "Use Destination Formatting".

When the text comes from outside Excel, the buttons default to "Keep Source..".

Is there a way to change that behavior, i.e., make it default to "Use Destination.." ?

Mike,
I've found that set-up preferences in programs like Excel are a highly personal thing. That said, here's what works for me - you may be able to find a different/better way...

I personally like to keep the "show Paste Options button" turned off, because I find it anoying most of the time. I also prefer the keyboard to the mouse, so I use a lot of keyboard shortcuts.

When I want to paste outside text (say highly formatted text from a web page) into Excel and have it look like the rest of my sheet, I will {Ctrl+c} it from the source, and then {Alt+e+s+t} it into Excel.

You've probably already found Microsoft's dissertation on "Paste Options", but if not, here it is:
It doesn't seem to speak to the issue of changing the defaults in the Paste Options dialog box, though.
Perhaps you could pose the question on the MrExcel forum.

Thanks for the response.
