Colleagues:

Was just informed by my mentor, "The Major," that Vic Milligan passed away last week. Vic was one of the founders of Golders when they broke away from Canada's (and the original) Geocon. He delivered the Terzaghi lecture in 2002.

He was quite the gentleman. He and his wife were on vacation in Mali when it happened. I am not aware of any details.

Another giant - dust to dust; he will be missed.

I have been meaning to add his Terzaghi lecture to my list of top ten papers on embankment dams on geoengineer.org, but hadn't gotten around to it. A good practical paper that belongs on the list. I'm sure I can find one of the ten on the current list to "demote."

"Some Uncertainties in Embankment Dam Enngineering," ASCE JGGE, v. 129, no. 9, September 2003, pp. 785-797.
