Hey Guys: What a great bunch and much respected by all. THANKS MUCH! I'm in hopes my doctor comes close. During a a visit some time back he predicted 105 for me. However,said come back next year. My question, "what for". He says "To make sure". And so this year it was via a phone call, due to virus.
So far no pills other than a mini aspirin. A major storm this week took down a spruce, 11" diam trunk and I've given away all my chainsaws. Luckily those saws came back and the guys did the sawing up job for me. Made me sit it out. Damn!

Still quite young compared to my mother in law, 98, healthy and alert on all details.

OG - my mum is 94 but not an engineer. I think you have a half year on my geotechnical mentor, Fred Matich, who studied under Terzasghi and Casagrande at Harvard and is actually still practicing and actively writing papers (I've attached one for our Fdns by Terzaghi group! I do wish you'd come visit me in Tajikistan! Our Technical Manager just turned 82 and every morning he says to me "Good morning young man (or boy)". I'd love, once, for someone to come out to visit that could say the same to him ! ! ! !

Today I had to turn down a job. The fellow who will be removing the tree stump in my front yard noted my business card as "retired engineer". Offered to do the clean up, etc free in return for me designing him a bridge into his country property. I didn't get into the differences there in cost, but gave the name of a local engineer in business for this type of work. My PE license expired also.

I think you can reactivate your PE license. Each local might have different requirement though.

I didn't really want the job and so I had a good excuse. Now how to get the stump out without damaging the electric line only 12" away from stump downwind side, but at 3 ft. Removal guy wants to pull it near upright before cutting.

Underground line? I might try to cut the shallow lateral roots near the line, and use stump-out to rod the remains.

Research on line says blue spruce have shallow root system, so I feel safer with the idea of the tree guy. Will see about pulling the stump back up some and keep an eye on the ground there. Should the line sever, power guys can lay a temporary line until an underground can be installed.
