New Solid Edge V18 User coming from 5 years of AutoDesk Inventor. I am having a problem with a parts list in that I have an existing drawing with an existing parts list. I am adding new parts to the parts list via adding these parts to the assembly. The problem I am having is that the new parts are not being listed from the last listing forward (ie the last item number on the existing parts list is 15 and the new part should start at 16 but drops in at 6). I cannot change the numbering order of the existing parts list so the new parts have to start where the existing parts left off. Why is Solid Edge doing this and why can't I move the items around and do a renumber? That was/is a nice feature of Inventor, in that it allows the user to manulipate the parts list in the order needed or desired. Can that also be done in Solid Edge??
Thanks for your help

Robert,
Right click your parts list, choose properties, choose sorting, set your preferences as desired. You can start at the number of your choice.

You can also click the balloon number for the part and change directly there.

Thanks for the help, but thats not working for what I am trying to do or not do.

The parts list exist and needs to stay sorted/numbered as it is, but I need to add new parts to it that will begin where the last existing part stops.

The parts list I have has currently 38 items and I am adding 6 more items. When I add the new 6 items they show up as item numbers 1, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20. I need the new parts to be numbered 39, 40, 41, 42, 43 and 44.

Thanks

if you use item number as the sorting method, they need to be at the bottom of the pathfinder tree in your asm file (in the order you want). you can drag them there.

Ok got it figured out and working.

I went back into my assembly and deleted the new parts out then saved it. Opened the draft file, clicked the properties for the parts list, sorted it by item number then saved it. Reopened the assembly and readded the new parts back in making sure that they were at the bottom of the list. Went back into the draft and updated - all is fine.

Thanks to everyone for your help.

Good question. So I take it from the answers there is no other way of controlling item numbers other than renumbering balloons or using the sort commands.

I wondered about this but hadn't had time to dig.
