I have a problem when adding parts to an assembly.
When the final relationship is placed to fully position the part all of those relationships disappear and are replaced by a ground constraint.
I'm not holding down the CTRL or SHIFT keys, just dragging the parts is and applying relationships as normal.
It has not always been like this and is only on my workstation - no-one else has the problem.
SE version is number 14.00.13.03. same as all others here.
I've looked for settings that might cause this problem but can't see anything obvious.
Anyone any suggestions ?

Hi beachcomber,

have you tried right clicking in the 'parts list' window in the edgebar when in the assembly environment : make sure that 'maintain relationships' is checked.

Thanks Fred,
Thats's cured the problem.
I can't remember unchecking this option, but it could have been when I unchecked the 'Use Simplified Parts option.
Someone went overboard here creating simplified parts and I was fed up of not being able to see the correct faces and holes for placing them.
Do you use simplified parts ?
If so have you found any great benefit ?
I did a test here on our main assembly (17000 parts) and it took 30% longer to load up with simplified parts.
I've created a configuration called 'nothing displayed' that loads in just a few seconds. Then I switch on just the sub-assemblies that I want.

In the 'Open File' dialog box, you have the options to use all simplified parts or use all designed parts.

Hi,

In my opinion the simplified mode is especially usefull when you have parts that are very complex (with a lot of edges to display). In a assembly with a lot of such parts, using simplified parts can make a big difference when trying to rotate, zoom or pan the assembly.

NB: do you know that you can use the cutout command in the simplified mode ? It can be handy !

With simple parts (like screws for example), using the simplified mode (which is sometimes already there with standard parts) can be beneficial for some operations but might slow you down for others because you have to switch modes too often...

I like your nothing displayed idea. I agree that it definitely helps to create your own configuration with hidden and inactive parts to accelerate the opening time.
