partition in 3D Model

Hi, I am trying to simulate a thermal loading in a beam. The beam has a cut from the sides, so I used partition to get structured hex meshes. Is there any other way to do the partition? I am getting an error that: Time increment needed i less than required. I have tried several steps but I am not getting this right. Any suggestions?
 
Why do you think, that the nonconvergence is caused by the partitions and the mesh?

Usually nonconvergence has other reasons.
 
I think so. Because when I remove the partitions and use the tet mesh (keeping everything else the same), I see no problems, except I do not get my results. That's why I am trying the hex structured
