hi guys

i'm interested in treating a washwater current containing particulate (between 15 and 500 nm)

i'm trying to understand the treatment i have to make.

i read something on marpol annex v:
i have 2 doubts:

1) for "cargo residues contained in wash water" and "offshore platforms and all ships within 500 m of such platforms", the discharge is prohibited. well, the question is: i could never ever separate 100% of particulate from washwater... in which terms the discharge is proibited? i guess there is a limit in ppm... isn't it? i don't get it

2) always talking about "cargo residues contained in wash water", but for "ships within (and outside as well) special areas", the charge is permitted... so i could throw out the whole particulate? that sounds strange to me, too...

hoping someone could give me some guidance on legislation about particulate emission in washwater on ships... thanks

You have not identified the type of particulate that you are trying to remove.
