Hi,
Is there a way to move a Part in relation to the origin (part evironment), other then constrain base feature?
Let's say if I have a part imported ("dumb"solid body) and I want to change the origin without going thru features recognition?

Thank you

The Origin is unmoveable. You have to change the Sketch location in relationship to the Origin.

If you have an imported model, you can use the Move/Copy body. You have to know the distance you need for X, Y, & Z and set those in the avail translate boxes.

Or

(Old way)
Make a new Coordinate system and export it out (Parasoild) using that Coordinate system instead of the Default Origin.

I did send in a enhancement request to SolidWorks for this, but don't think it will happen soon. Too complicated. Maybe someday. Scott has a great suggestion. You can also RMB on the sketch name and change to a new sketch plane, but other sketches may need to be fixed ... depends on how complicated the part is.

Gents,

I just learned the another way around:
1-Start new assembly.
2-Insert the part you want the origin to be moved and constrain geometry to the assembly origin as you want it to be in the part.
3 - Save as PART - done...

The new part's origin will be as you constrained it in the auxilary assembly. Works for me... fast and easy.

Thanx again for your input.

Except now you can't edit the part as before. I can't.

Correct...

This is for "dumb" (imported solid) with no features.
Sometimes I want to keep it this way.

It is good for purchased standard parts, but not something that needs to change.
