Part Material missing from Library - Effects?

Are there any ill effects if a material that's applied to a part is missing from the Materials Library? It doesn't appear to me that there are; if you try to edit the material you get a "Could not find material" dialog box, but you can then apply a new material.

I ask because I'm about to redo our custom Materials Library, and I'll be renaming everything. So, anything with and old material name will be 'broken' and I want to make sure that there won't be any suprises. We'll reapply materials from the new Materials Library.
