Hi,

I know the function of the "part family" to create parts. Is it possible to to use this feature or another feature to create assemblies?

My problem is: I have some parts an want to arrange and combine them in certain ways.
E.g.: I have the Parts A,B,C,D and the Parts 1,2,3,4. I want to combine A1,A2,A3,A4,B1,B2,...and so on and arrange them.

I thought of the feature "part family". So that have a top Assembly and want to load into that ASM on of the combination. And I only have to add one assembly an UG asks: A1,A2,A3,...?
Just like UG does with parts in the Part Family.

Thanks

Yes, you can create a assy B where B1=A+1 B2=A+2 etc (also with part families, add component in the menu)
Then you'll have B1, B2 , B3 , .... which in turn you can use in assy C....

Best regards,

Michaël.

It can be done, but if you have a lot of combinations, it can get tricky to maintain the relationships.

Ata prior company, I did it in Pro/E with wire guide chanels that have a screwed down top. I had the bae U-channel with its holes as a family table. I had the top cover with its holes, and the hand nut to hold them together. The lengths were defined in the individual part family tables and the assembly family table brought the components together. For every new length, we had to create a new assembly. We did it as a family table because it made switching to a different length easier if some other aspect of the design changed.

Could you do it using suppression controlled by expressions to turn the relevant assembly children on and off, although they would all appear in the BOM unless you can set the 'Component is refertence only' attribute (REFERENCE_COMPONENT) for the supressed components?
