I need to convert a parasolid to an Iges. Its an 89meg file converted to parasolid from pro/e. I seem to lock up SE. it seem so be working but then doesn't respond, I waited at that point for 20min. It locked up when opening the parasolid, didn't even make it to try and convert it.

I did this by opening a new part and then Insert>Part copy. Is there any other way that may be successful?

I have a feeling it's because of the size of the file or its corrupt. A buddy of mine tried to open the parasolid in Wildfire, but he locked up also

Any ideas? Thanks!!!

Is the original file an assembly ?
If so, it's probably failing because you are trying to create a single massive part file from loads of bits.
Try using the plain 'Open' command and setting the file type filter to parasolid. There are various options you can set for the conversion.
I would suggest setting the output folder to a new empty folder so as to keep the new files separate to any live stuff.
It will then ask for a template to use. I would suggest using assembly then you will get loads of part files instead of one big one.
Good Luck.

As beachcomber said use the Open Comand not insert part copy and see what happens. That way you get a choice of part or assy.

Thanks guys. It seems tohave worked uther than the fact all that shows is an empty part. As a part there are many part copy features. But as an asm there is the top level asm name but no children..i'm a bit confused, nothings hidden or supressed that I can see.

Hi,

'many part copy features': are they visible? If not select one
and do an RMB --> show surfaces (hope that's the way in V17
I'm on V18)

converted to asm: no parts at all or just the same: Edgebar
has some but none is visible?

It may be that the Parasolid contains only surfaces and you
should check the import options on Heal and Stitch, Boolean Solids (!)
.

Thanks for the help…this is what I'm seeing when I save it as a part. I have found out that it was originally an assy. But I also had the same issued saving it as a assy, but without anything under the top level assy, other than the 3 datums. Heal stich & bollean Solid is checked by default.

Didn't find a "show surfaces" command in V17

Looks like all the parts are construction surfaces.

In your assembly pathfinder select the parts then RMB and Show/Hide Component > Surfaces
