If you set up the paper space with a PDF printer it works ok but I've had no luck getting a PDF from a paper space drawing setup with another printer. I always go back to model space to print a pdf file in that case.
If you don't have a PDF printer there are several websites listed on a previous thread (I can't remember which off the top of my head). You can also get a pdf printer with programs like Adobe Photo Deluxe (cost about $45 USD).
Good luck, Steve Smith

Print to a file and create a PLT file. Then, either rename your PLT to PS, or associate PLTs to Adobe Distiller. Distiller makes PDFs from PostScript Files.
AGV is right. If you have "Acrobat PDF writer" installed as a printer "on your computer", you should be able to print directly to a PDF. This is dispite whether your in "paper" or "model" space.
From AuotCAD 2000 and above, you should be able to pick it from within the plot dialog box under plot devices. You can also play with the paper size and resolution. If your having problems plotting from paper space, it could be a hardware problem. Don't do a full preview but a partial preview if you must?.. And then just plot and save to a PDF file.
From R14, you need to configure a new printer using the "system printer" driver. This driver will allow you to select printers installed on your computer.
And the Adobe Acrobat, the full version, is about $500 US dollars.
