I have a package unit with a panelview plus HMI and compact logix plc. What I would like to accomplish is add 40 I/O points, compact logic plc , and capability to see on existing HMI + 1 new remote PC.

I have used RSview on a PC before but I don't have much experience with Panelview plus. My experience with RSview is using it on a Pc at 1 location only.
Is it possible to upload existing application from panelview to PC then make changes and download back to panelview? Or do I have to go back to contractor who installed HMI to get panelview program?

Does anyone have HMI software they like to work with when using PLC's from multiple vendors?

If the HMI at the customer site is firmware version 5.0 and you are using FTView studio 5.0 then you will be able to upload and work with the project. If the PV+ is earlier revision then you could get the application from the customer or integrator or you may still upload and convert the mer to an apa but much will be lost.

If you have a late enough version of RSView Studio, then yes you can upload from the HMI. You can actually save the file to a compact flash if you have no way to upload via RSLinx. You will also need a seat of RSLogix 5000 to add I/O to the PLC.
As JDE777 mentioned, firmware may be an issue. It’s a good idea to have the latest version of the software and the latest version of the firmware on the HMI.

As for other HMI versions, Red Lion has some very nice units that are very cost effective.

Also, you want to make sure in the future that any time you have controls work performed you get an electronic copy of the configuration. HMI, PLC, SCADA whatever. We generally provide our clients with a CD that has all the configurations, programs, manuals, etc. I would suggest putting this in your terms so there are no disagreements when a new system is installed.
