Paintability of double channels 2

there is this disturbing "difficult to paint" problem when using double channels with spacer plates between plates, forming a built up column from double channels back to back.

Personally from statics point of view I prefer double channels lip to lip forming a box section though this one does give me more connection problems.

How do you pals go around this one?

I think the painting problem is one reason why the back-to-back spaced double channel is not as popular as the old books suggest it once was.
For the same reason of paintability, double angle sections are often placed starred „¢„¤ rather than back-to-back „£„¤ .
 
IJR...a couple of thoughts...
If you are talking about shop painting, then dipping will solve the issue. Field painting will be largely unsuccessful.

Another option is to use weathering steel and use no paint.
