I have a journal on a dryer section felt roll that has been overheated due to the failure of the bearing at the opposite end of the roll. The cast iron bearing cap was rubbing against the jounal and left decolored markings and material transfer from the bearing cap at various points on the journal (looks like cast material welded/melted to journal).

The journal material is most likely 4340 HT.

Any thoughts on how this condition may affect future operation of this roll after cleaning up journal and repairing bearing assemblies?
