Hey everyone, I'm trying to solve a problem of an orthotropic cylinder with T(r). The vehicle is not designed yet, so our goal is to create a generalized plane strain model so our axial length is arbitrary. I am not sure of a way to solve a generalized plane strain (GPS) problem with T(r) since the axial strain is not constant. When solving a GPS using finite elements, we usually utilize symmetry and simply model a small wedge with the axial faces coupled independently. This would ensure constant axial strain since the entire structure is growing uniformly. Here, I have a problem where the OD and ID are at a different temperature and therefore grow at different rates (using temperature dependent properties). If I couple the axial faces, I still get axial bending with compressive stresses on the OML and tensile stresses on the IML. Does anyone know if there is a way to model a generalized plane strain model with T(r) and if there is a closed form solution to this problem? Thanks.
