Good Day,

I have a question regarding equations for circular orifices. Can anybody provide an equation for discharge through a circular orifice that is PARTIALLY submerged ? We are doing a project which requires an orifice of substantial diameter (800mm dia.), but we have come across what appear to be conflicting equations for the partially submerged case. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

John

If the orifice is partially submerged, then how much pressure drop through it do you anticipate? Obviously it cannot be more than a few (tenths of) inches of water, since more than that would change the submergence level.

Is it an orifice or a duct? Steven van Els
