opening .stp files in solid edge

when I open the .stp mold base file ( several plates stacked ) the imported file comes in as a solid part not multiple plates. any Ideas?

How dpo I fix this or am I importing wrong..

Are you opening it as an assembly using the assembly template?
Was it exported as an assembly?
