opening, saving, and creating files problem in autocad 2002 1

I am using AutoCAD 2002 and for some reason that is unknown to me whenever I try to open, save, or create a file it does not display a window in which to correspond it to my computer files, instead it displays options down in the command window and I have to type in the file extention to save it to what folder I want. Has anyone ran into this?
