Oct 29, 2003 #2 IFRs Petroleum Nov 22, 2002 4,673 I think the answer for API 650 tanks is: Yes as long as the reinforcing pad intersects the horizontal weld at 90 degrees and extends past the horizontal weld by 6" if the shell plate is less than 1/2" thick and (the greater of 10" and 8T) if greater than 1/2" thick.
