open in excel as space separated file

hello
i am stuck on an excel issue when opening space separated text files.
i have many text files that i need to open in excel as space separated files..... i manually click thru the OPEN> etc etc etc tabs to do this.
can the excel defaults be changed to automatically be set to open all *.* files as space separated files?

The macro recorder is your friend in cases like this.

There are a couple of other options for you - if you have to work on this sort of thing regularly - have you considered saving your session as workspace ? Also, theres a fantastic add-in available at

I think called the spreadsheet assistant - I came across it in a excel programming book - and now regularly use it - gives you quite a few options for this sort of thing.

thanks for all the input ..... guess i am going to learn a lot about add-ins and macros .... i am semi-decent in VB6 so VBA shouldnt be too bad .... but i DID think it would be an easy OPTIONS>SET PREFS > ....sequence in EXCEL !!

Daveleo,

If you import a text file, the settings will stay the same for your session. So next time you do the import, you can click Finish right away - until the next day.
